C'mon Randy, was the record breaking season in receiving TD's, alongside the ability of being a Wide Receiver on the New England Patriots, for Tom Brady not enough for you? Where in the world does it cross your mind that having a 60 year old Brett Favre as Quarterback, as opposed to Brady in his prime, a better scenario for you? Nonetheless, the Vikings have been pitiful this year at 1-2 behind the 3-1 Bears and Packers. Hell, the Vikings are only 1 game better than the Lions right now, that's just bad. Plus the Patriots are 3-1. I wonder if Randy knows that he gets to play the Patriots 4 weeks from now? Maybe by then the Vikings will have 2 more wins than the lowly Lions, maybe. Sure on paper you look at the Vikings and say WOW, I bet they go undefeated. But then look at their record, sure only week 3 but still, you get my point. Randy you had the best situation ever here in New England, a fan base that loved you, a QB who can actually hit you with passes, and a team that can win, giving you an actual shot at your first Super Bowl championship, yeah remember that thing every team plays for at the end of the season where they give out rings and such? Right I didn't think so. But hey, good luck out there in Minnesota, with Brett I'm sure when playoff time comes around and both his knees buckle, Tavaris Jackson will be a great player. Oh wait...

You realize that the Patriots traded Moss, and he didn't choose to leave, correct? This was not a case of Moss wanting to flee New England, but of the Patriots choosing to dump a potential hazard before he snapped. Moss wanted a contract extension. Everyone knew that Belichick obviously wasn't going to grant him one. He may be a great player, but the Patriots have a history of dumping Pro-Bowl talents the minute they become concerned with money. Remember Lawyer Milloy, Deion Branch, Asante Samuel, or Richard Seymour? Moss didn't do anything wrong in this case. It's a business- he knows it. He'll tear it up probably in Minnesota under Favre (who by the way-- isn't struggling because he's in his 40s, it's because his top receiver- Sidney Rice- is out for the year with an injury). He wants to prove he can do well as it's the last year of his contract, and he'll probably toast the Pat's secondary for some decent yardage when the Vikings meet up with New England. I'm not necessarily happy about it, but it's the way the NFL works. Get used to it.
ReplyDeleteActually, Moss did want out of New England, he actually demanded to be traded to the management. And yes, of course I remember every one of those situations, as a lifelong Lawyer Milloy fan it broke my heart the moment he was released. But still the Patriots have also found a way to win Super Bowls without, a big time reciever ever being on the roster. If you look at the recieving corps any of the years that they actually won the Super Bowl you will see that there are no big names on the roster. Yes Brett Favre doesn't have Sidney Rice this year, but it's only for the first 8 weeks not the whole year just to correct you. Also Brett Favre isn't sure himself he will make it through this season more than ever, he is going to take time to adjust to Moss, and by the time they connect who knows what hole the Vikings may possibly be in. Also yes, Moss may torch the Pats' secondary it happens to be a common theme in todays' Patriots playbook, let the opposing WR's trample all over them but find a way to take the ball away in key situations or outscore the opposition. What I meant is that Moss may go in there and it could be a barn burner, but if the Patriots win, he's probably going to look at himself in the mirror and wonder if what he did to himself was worth it. Yes it is a business, and no nobody likes it whose a fan and wants to see their star players on the field happy and performing. But I must say I'm used to it by now with Krafts stinginess. But you are right it's the NFL and we all have to just get used to it.
ReplyDeleteHe also said in interviews after that he wanted to play the rest of his career in NE so it's difficult to say exactly what Moss wanted. Now reports are suggesting he got in a fight with Brady the last week (Which is overblown from my perspective, if teammates don't fight a little then they flat out will not have a relationship. If you looked at lockerroom footage of pre-game speeches, Moss was one of the most vocal leaders and biggest motivators on the team.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Favre could possibly have bigger problems on his plate right now with the rumors about him being spread this week, gelling with Moss is not going to be that difficult I don't believe. If this were a QB being traded, it would be an entirely different scenario, but WR don't have to memorize nearly as much of a playbook as other positions. Moss simply has to know his routes and blocking assignments, and I'm sure the Vikings coaching staff will streamline the playbook for him the first week or 2.
And also remember when the Patriots won those Super Bowls they also had a much more balanced team. It wasn't until 2007, Moss's first year, that NE really became a spread team. NE '01-'05 or so was built off the short pass game, a decent running game (the Dillon years at least), a stellar defense, and strong special teams. Maybe this move is an effort to get back to those days, considering the two strong rookie TE's they have, but don't underestimate the effect Moss had on the field. Welker, Hernandez, and all the other receivers are losing out on catches that were opened up by Moss. If one of these guys can prove that they're worthy of a double-team, as Moss was constantly, then the offense will be fine. Otherwise you seriously better hope that the defense is as good as you brag it is.
