Spoiler Alert

So they may not have made the playoffs this year, they may not have even been within 5 games of making them. But i mean can you really make the playoffs in a division against the Yankees and Rays when both of your best two players had their seasons ended by injury and one of the largest disabled lists in team history? But hey, if there was one thing the Red Sox accomplished this season it was in the last series of the year against the dread Yankees. Whenever the Yankees come to town its a bloodbath, they could be separated by 50 games in the standings, and still everything that happened before that series wouldn't matter. So was the case with this series that just happened. The Red Sox, just recently officially eliminated from playoff contention, although their season was over when Pedroia was reinjured, faced off against the Yankees who needed to win to have a chance at the AL East title. Boston hates New York and likewise, it's just a known truth. It even extends beyond sports, into just the actual people. But when Neew York needed those two wins to get that coveted homefield advantage, the BoSox slammed the door. I hope A-Roids has fun playing away from home for those four games it'll take the red hot Twins to knock out the arrogant Spankees. But for now us Boston fans can look forward to the much anticipated seasons of the Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. Man does it feel good to be from Boston.

  1. They say that hindsight always gives us 20-20. Unfortunately for you I think that even in hindsight you're blinded by your unbridled passion for Boston sports, so I'll catch you up. After 2 games the Yankees have trounced the Twins, handling their best pitcher, Francisco Liriano, with ease. As much as I hate the Yankees, you have to give them respect as a team. They had already clinched a playoff spot by the time they got to Boston, and you're a fucking idiot if you honestly though they would waste their energy dragging out a series that didn't matter to either team. Honestly, it worked out better for the Yankees, as they got to play Minnesota instead of Texas, which could possibly be the 2nd most dangerous team in the playoffs with their young pitching staff (Look at the series vs Tampa so far). We beat them in 1 game at the end of the year, but guess what, the Sox are heading home for the winter, while the Yankees are still playing. Dedication as a fan is perfectly understandable, but bias and pretentious journalism is a whole new ball game. I'll be looking forward to your next post.

  2. Yes, i do understand that the Yankees as a team were better than the Red Sox this team , i do understand that they got lucky with facing Minnesota and wholly beilieved from the start they would have no trouble beating them, that was the being from Boston part of me that hoped they would suck. But if you really are going to tell me that those last 2 games against the Red Sox didn't mean a whole lot to the Yankees, you got another thing coming. The Yankees have always been a team with the idea that they have to win everything, especially with that fan base. Getting homefield advantage coupled with the AL East pennant is a trophy that is highly touted in the AL since it is the best division by far and away in MLB. The Yankees wanted that series as much as anything but when the Sox and Yankees play both teams bring it. The Sox outdueled the Yanks last two games and not allowing them to get homefield advantage during their second series against most likely the Rangers could prove costly. That we shall see, but thanks for the criticizm I do appreciate it.

  3. As much as Sox fans will love to say that 'we really showed them' in those two games, it really won't mean all that much. Dare I remind you of 2004? That year, it was the Red Sox, not the Yankees, that won the AL East, while Boston made it into the playoffs through the Wild Card. Down 3-0, Boston won 2 at Fenway and then went TO Yankee Stadium to win games 6 and 7. Is it great to have the one extra game in front of your fans, of course, but it hardly matters. Three years in a row (2002-2004), a WC team won the World Series, and as a Red Sox fan you and me can both attest to the fact that only winning the Wild Card means jack shit compared to holding the trophy. If the Yanks lose then Boston fans across the country will take credit for it, but there's so much more that goes into it. As much as you hate the Yankees, take a back seat and just enjoy the next 3 weeks of baseball, regardless of who's playing. It should be great.
